“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus”
In 1 Peter 2:21, 1 Corinthians 11:1 and Ephesians 5:1-2 there is call for all disciples of Jesus to be imitators of Him. How we live matters. If we are not imitating Christ in an accurate, true and honest way no one will listen to our message. Are you imitating Christ in your small groups? In your marriages? In your neighborhoods? Or in your workplace? He calls us to walk in the light, in love, and in wisdom. The only way this imitation is possible is when we are constantly near to Jesus. By reading His words, studying His life, and loving what He loves.
“This is not merely to learn about Christ, or even learn from Christ, but to learn Christ Himself. To be saturated in Christ, hearing Him and being taught by Him just by simply being near to Him.”
This is not merely to learn about Christ, or even learn from Christ, but to learn Christ Himself. To be saturated in Christ, hearing Him and being taught by Him just by simply being near to Him. In his book, Master Plan of Evangelism, Dr. Robert Coleman says that, “Amazing as it may seem, all Jesus did to teach these men his way was to draw them close to Himself. He was his own school and curriculum.” By the Holy Spirit, and through God’s words in scripture we can learn Christ in this way, just like the twelve.
As we learn Christ, we become imitators of Christ. We can be a light to the world, displaying that all that Jesus has said and all that He did has the power to transform lives.
