“I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in steadfast love, and in mercy. I will even betroth you to Me in stability and in faithfulness, and you shall know [recognize, be deeply acquainted with appreciate, give heed to, and cherish] the Lord.”
HOSEA 2:19-20 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE)
The sincerest of hearts vowing in matrimony to always do right by one another, to esteem and be devoted perpetually to the others’ good, and to not give one another what is deserved, will fail.
When humble, we may even glimpse the failures as part of God’s grace, sanctifying and maturing us. But God. He loves purely, day-in, day-out, moment to moment. He is ever-present, ever-powerful, and all-knowing to do so. And He wills to. He wills to hold us, to keep us, intimately and enduringly. He wills to esteem us and be devoted to us in the way He esteems and upholds His Son. He wills to not give us death as we deserve, to help us put off the sin that so easily entangles and to grow into the character that so beautifully frees us. And in faithfully doing so, He brings us to know and cherish Him intimately. Oh let us adore God Who is willing.
