Psalm 119:98-100, 130 (ESV)
True wisdom is never gained by experience or excessive study. In fact, God has used “what is foolish in the world to shame the wise,” (1 Cor.1:27) which is to say God’s truth exposes worldly wisdom as empty and futile.
As the source of wisdom God’s Word gives light, and “imparts understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130). The believer who meditates on his testimonies and keeps his precepts will reap the rewards of God’s truth in his life.
“I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.” (119:99) Meditate on the Word of God, for out of it are all the issues of life. Wisdom is not gained by excessive study of extrabiblical sources, but simply meditation on the simple truth of God’s Word.
“I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts.” (119:100). As you meditate on the word of God, his truth sheds light into the gray areas of your daily tasks. By keeping his precepts you are not only living in word, but in deed. Old age will be so much sweeter when you keep God precepts and abide in his law.
“Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.” (119:98). The law of the Lord keeps us from spiritual and physical harm, it is sweeter than honey and more precious than gold. This is an everlasting promise of how the Word of God literally binds the universe together. By meditating on his word, keeping his precepts and obeying his law we are allowing God’s truth to prevail in our lives and to alter our future for our good and His glory.
