THE GREAT COMMISSION

HOWDY, HILLSIDE!

Earlier in February, we completed the annual Church Series in our Sunday gatherings. It greatly encourages me to be reminded of who Jesus has called Hillside to be and what Jesus has called us to do. If you are new to Hillside or desire to get more connected to the community of Hillside, then prayerfully consider one or more of these next steps:

As we walked through Matthew 28:18-20, Pastor Dave illustrated how we often desire to write our own mission rather than “function in submission to Jesus’ mission, so that we join his great commission.” Here are three big ideas that give shape to the great commission being lived out at Hillside, along with some ways you can pray:

PRAY THAT HILLSIDE IS MORE THAN A ONE-HIT WONDER

We will be a fruitful people. We don’t want to be a one-hit wonder. A generation from now it would be such a joy to see the message of Jesus preached and the mission of Jesus continue in Spring Branch and all over San Antonio. So we pray every member of Hillside becomes an everyday missionary in the everyday place God sends us. We also pray for Hillside to become a launchpad to start more works in more places to see more people changed by Jesus.

PRAY THAT HILLSIDE MAKES DISCIPLES WHO MAKE DISCIPLES

We will focus on the formation of disciples. We plan to accomplish the mission of disciple making through four core ministries: gatherings, groups, equip, and empower. We want to gather on Sundays around the proclamation of Jesus crucified, buried and resurrected. We want to connect in meaningful relationships through community groups. And we want to equip and empower every disciple at Hillside to follow Jesus, to serve with their gifts, and to lead others. We pray to see the men, women, and children of Hillside press on to maturity, rooted in the word of God and filled with the Spirit of God.

PRAY THAT HILLSIDE FAITHFULLY STEWARDS ALL GOD HAS GIVEN TO US

We will be good steward of God’s good gifts. We understand our current logistics create a lot of congestion and pain-points. We plan to develop facilities that facilitate not frustrate the vision and mission. The property he has provided us is beautiful. The work Jesus is doing throughout Hillside is amazing. The people he is gathering are gifted. We pray Hillside stewards all of our resources in ways that facilitate greater delight in Jesus and greater blessing to our neighbors.
