How amazing is the redemption story God has given us through Jesus. It truly is remarkable that we may know Him and live in Him, and we can be forgiven and know we are forgiven of our sins. What an amazing love Christ has given us through the gospel that shapes us and by Christ’s power changes us. It gives to us righteousness we could not attain on our own nor gain without God providing it for us.

It is true God loves us, and he loved us before we were redeemed by the blood of Jesus. At the same time, it is also true because of our sin we were God’s enemies (Colossians 1:21).  Think about that? If God is righteous, which He is, then His righteousness, His purity, His true love, His very character is opposed to all things sinful.  Romans 5:10 says “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life”.  This is what makes the gospel so incredible and unfathomable! That God would take His enemies and make them His children by lavishing love on them through the Son! (1 John 3:1)

This type of love, this type of affection, this type of sacrifice cannot fully be comprehended. Part of it is a beautiful, wonderful mystery.  If I examine myself and I’m honest, I’m not sure I would die for my enemies. Not Jesus though. Not our God. He laid down His life so our state before him would change from enemy to His beloved children. This I don’t fully understand, but I’m thankful to know because of the sacrifice of Jesus I will have all of eternity to ponder it.

My prayer is this song will bless you as you pursue the Lord. That you’d be encouraged to be fully surrendered to Jesus in light of His tremendous love and grace.

Victorious Over Us

Verse 1
Once against You
Now we’re on Your side
Our rebellion broken
Death gave way to life

Your affection for us will never end
It’s greater than we know

From the cross
You lavished love on us
Became our sin, oh our sin
From the grave
You rose, You saved our souls
You’re victorious, oh over us

Verse 2
Your love for us
Tears down walls of sin
Though prone to wander
Your cross draws us in

on the cross You died
to freely justify Your children
Sin no longer reigns
our death and shame have been defeated

You’re victorious, we’re victorious
