“I recently started a daily devotional with my children. As a new homeschool mom I felt the need to be intentional with our time with the Lord as a family first thing each morning. Although not a long time, we typically spend 5-10 minutes each morning before school reflecting on a passage and opening our day of school in prayer.
It’s funny how the Lord works. While these devotionals are tailored to children, I find myself getting so much from Him in these daily reminders. One about being wired and needing rest spoke volumes as I thought about how the quarantine slowed everyone down so abruptly. To say it was hard to adjust at first would possibly be the understatement of the century…but then I found it to be one of the most restful times of my life. I was able to see the Lord’s hand in so many areas as He revealed things I never would have had the “time” to allow. While I understand the severity of this virus and am heartbroken for the people and families it has affected, I’m grateful for the forced rest.
After reading the devotional today, it dawned on me how quickly I got back to the hustle and bustle, filling each day with good things, but finding myself running into most evenings exhausted. So, I’m thankful for a reminder to rest. Even if my days are full, I can find a few minutes here and there throughout the day to quiet my heart to hear His still, small voice. (1 Kings 19:11-12)
However you’re feeling today, I pray this gives you a nudge to seek Him, rest in Him, abide in Him and His love. (John 15) “
