Summer Sermon Series – Roderick Barnes

Our vision at Hillside is to make disciples of Jesus who press on to maturity in Him, are equipped and deployed by Him, to serve and reach others for Him. Join us as we take a short break from our study through Acts to hear from guest speakers who will open the Bible and point us to Jesus. This 5-week mini-series will introduce us to men who have been on the front lines of church planting. We hope to learn from such friends as we pray to become a fruitful family, launching more works in more places so that more people will be changed by Jesus.

Roderick will be our guest speaker on July 19. He was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Sam Houston High School and went from there (1988) to study Physics and Computer Science at Rice University. During his time at Rice he was confronted by the claims of Christ through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. In his sophomore year (January 1990), Roderick made a decision to trust Christ for salvation. Two years after that, he accepted the call to preach. He and his wife Darlene have six boys and one granddaughter. They have a passion for (1) serving the Lord in the context of the local church, (2) bringing the gospel to college students, and (3) mentoring people toward maturity in Christ in the workplace. Roderick became Lead Pastor for Communion Chapel in January of 2020. He is bi-vocational; when he is not preaching or parenting he can be found writing software for a consulting company in San Antonio. Check back soon for Roderick’s photo!
