Ephesians 5:1-21 NASB
1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; 4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; 8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14 For this reason it says,
And arise from the dead,
And Christ will shine on you.”
15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; 21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

- Walk in Light 5:7-14
- Walk in Wisdom 5:15-21
1) WALK IN LOVE (v.1-6): Be imitators of Christ, walk in love…
a. If the Christian life isn’t about locking ourselves in a room so we aren’t associating with sinners and the culture around us, how have you been able to share your faith story with those who do not yet know Jesus? What keeps you from sharing your journey of faith with those around you?
b. If Jesus had a lot of “dirt on Him” that might mean that walking with Jesus can be a dirty business. In what ways have you lived your life like the apostle Paul “being all things to all men”?
2) WALK IN LIGHT (v.7-14)
a. Reread the passages together that Pastor Shawn referenced: 1 Thess.5:5, Phil.2:14-15, John 17:14-16. Reflect on the meaning of Christ’s call for being Light to a darkened world. Put more words to what that means for you this next week.
b. How do you interact with the statement “Anyone who doesn’t have non-Christian friends is missing the point of the mission Christ has given to us.”? How do that statement interact with your lifestyle today? What would you would like to change?
3) WALK IN WISDOM (v.14-21)
a. A.W. Tozer – writes – “Time is a resource that is nonrenewable and nontransferable. You cannot store it, slow it up, hold it up, divide it up, or give it up. You can’t hoard it up or save it for a rainy day – when it’s lost it’s unrecoverable. When you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection.” What does that make you think about how you have spent your last week? What would you change about how you spent your time and why?
b. What would you described your life to be ‘controlled by the Holy Spirit’? Can you put words to how you’ve seen others in your CG living Spirit filled and Spirit controlled lives? c. In what ways does a New Year and a New Year inspire you to want to grow in Christ in 2019? What would you pray for one another? What does loving each other and encouraging ‘one another day after day’ look like for your CG this next year?
