Luke: Follow Jesus-Worst Altar Call Ever

QUESTIONS:

1. (Luke 18:18-30) When you read the story of the rich young ruler, what stands out most to you- and why do you think he walks away sad instead of following Jesus?
2. (Luke 18:18-21) In what ways do we act like “illusionists”- projecting an image of being more spiritual, put-together, or obedient than we really are? Where are you most tempted to hide or manage your image?
3. (Luke 18:22-23) Jesus puts His finger on the man’s idol- his wealth. What are some modern “idols” that compete for our trust and security (e.g., money, success, control, politics, family, reputation)? Which one do you personally feel most drawn to rely on? What does it promise you?
4. (Luke 18:24-30) Jesus promises that no one who sacrifices for Him will ultimately lose out. Where do you struggle to believe that following Jesus is actually worth it? What would it mean for you to take Him at His word?
