Luke: Follow Jesus- Symptoms of Religion

OUTLINE:

• Symptoms (Luke 15:1-3;25-29)
  • Grumbling (Luke 15:1-2)
  • Superiority (Luke 15:2-3)
  • Anger (Luke 15:25-29)

QUESTIONS:

1. (Luke 15:1-3;25-30) In this passage, both the younger and older brother are lost-just in very different ways. Which one do you instinctively relate to more? How has this played out in your story?
2. (Luke 15:1-2) What do you find yourself grumbling about most often? What is your grumbling attached to (Control, recognition, justice, fairness, comfort)? How does remembering that we are welcomed sinners not worthy servants begin to turn grumbling into gratitude?
3. (Luke 15:2-3) Who do you tend to look down on-subtly or internally- even if you’d never say it out loud? When do you use social comparison to feel better about yourself? How does His grace grow us from scorekeepers to servants?
4. (Luke 15:28) When do you become most angry? What does your anger reveal about what you love most? When you feel justified in your anger, what truth about the Gospel are you subtly rejecting?
